Vegeworth started in February 1992, originally based in Alberton. The business had two workers and largely supplied to the public and the catering industry. We soon started expanding our customer base to include retail outlets and relocated to our second factory in Driehoek, Germiston. Here we increased our product range and production volumes, requiring larger premises resulting in the move to our currently owned 4000mē premises in Wadeville, Germiston. The Vegeworth client base and our workforce have grown enormously, with our first customers still as regulars and our initial employees having risen, through the ranks, to management.
The company processes "ready to eat", "ready to heat" and "ready to cook" foods, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Clients include large supermarket chains, educational institutions, airlines and other caterers, petroleum companies and restaurants. The product range covers 60 different prepared salads, available in various MAP packaged containers, in sizes from 200g to 20kg, as well as vegetable mixes and soups, available in pack sizes from 150g to 5kg. Since 2006 and in the interests of food safety, Vegeworth has been HACCP and PAS certified. Besides the annual HACCP and PAS audits, Vegeworth also has quarterly hygiene audits carried out by an accredited SANAS certified laboratory. To further ensure maximum food safety, weekly samples of both raw and finished products are sent for microbiological analysis.
To ensure uninterrupted supply, we have our own stand-by power and water facility. Deliveries to customers, depending on the delivery day/route, are carried out by our own refrigerated delivery fleet, within 24 to 48 hours. Production control, recipes, sales statistics, debtors, creditors and payrolls are sophisticatedly computerised with full back-up systems. Suppliers include reputable and proven manufacturers and growers located in various parts of South Africa. Harmonious relationships and the well-being of staff, at all levels, are a priority and are evident in product quality and performance. Vegeworth continuously strives to provide the retailer and consumer, with quality, freshness and convenient products.
